Forty-five candidates are contesting the governorship election with David Lyon of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Senator Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the top contenders.

Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson is almost done as the leader of the oil-rich area.

There are eight local governments (LGAs), 105 Registration Areas and 1,804 Polling Units in Bayelsa State.

1:20 PM: Some suspected thugs have damaged electoral materials at Ward 8 in Registration Area Centre (RAC) in Ekeremor LGA.

1:06 PM. Governor Seriake Dickson has cast his vote alongside his wife Rachel at Ward 2, PU 5, Torí-Orua community in Sagbama LGA of Bayelsa state.

12:10 PM: The APC candidate David Lyon has cast his vote at Olugbobiri in Southern Ijaw LGA.

11: 40am: Former President Jonathan and his wife have voted at their Polling Unit 39, Ward 13, in Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area (LGA) of Bayelsa.

10: 00 am:  Voting has started in Bayelsa State at PU10, Ward 6 Fangi Primary School, Yenegoa LG.

Opukuma North
Voting has also begun in the area with voters casting their ballot at PU014, Ward 7, Opukuma North, Igbainwari Town Square, Kolokuma/Opukuma, Bayelsa State.

8:05: Former President Jonathan Pissed Off

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has lamented the late arrival of electoral officers for the Bayelsa governorship election.

He was at his ward 13, polling unit 39 in Otuoke, Ogbia local government area and rued the absence of youths. Jonathan has since returned home to wait for the arrival if the electoral officers and materials.

7:30 am:  Electoral have since arrived in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital with INEC officials setting up polling units for the voting to start.
