He began his academic journey at St. Christopher’s Primary School, Uchu, Yache, a typical village in Yala LGA, Cross River State and progressed to Yache Community Secondary School, Alifokpa, Yache and later to St. Thomas’ College, Ogoja. After obtaining his FSLC, JSSC and TCII, respectively from the aforementioned schools, he proceeded to NTI, Kaduna for his NCE. With his unquenchable cravings for knowledge and improvement, he went further by gaining admission into the prestigious University of Calabar, where he bagged Bachelor of Education (B.Ed). His undying passion for academic achievement enabled to yet bagged MSc and PhD in Industrial Sociology in the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Calabar, Calabar.

Dr. Stephen Odey, in his quest to become a legal figure, ventured into the legal field when he sought and gained admission into the Law Faculty of UNICAL and distinguished himself with excellent performance that earned him Bachelor of Law (LL.B Hons). To be called to bar, he proceeded to Nigerian Law School, Bwari, Abuja where he acquired B.L and was called to Bar as a solicitor of the Supreme Court, Nigeria.

Career Life:

He served with the Cross River State Ministry of Education as teacher between 1989 and 1998. He rose to the position of Acting Principal in 1999.

Dr. Steve resigned from the Cross River State Ministry of Education and joined the defunct Joint Maritime Labour Industrial Council in 2001 as Senior Dock Labour Officer and later joined the services of the University of Calabar, Calabar, Nigeria as Lecturer II in the Department of Sociology, and was promoted to Lecturer I in 2015 and in 2019 he was also promoted Senior Lecturer.

He is also an Adjunct Lecturer with the National Open University of Nigeria between 2005 and 2009.

Dr Odey was appointed Personal Assistant (2011-2014) and latter, Special Assistant (2014-2015) to Senator (Prof.) Benedict Ayade – Senator Representing the Northern Senatorial District of Cross River State in the National Assembly.

Dr (Barr.) Stephen Odey was appointed Executive Chairman, Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board in 2015, and later in 2017 he was appointed Acting Managing Director of Cross River State Water Board Limited

He was reappointed Cross River SUBEB Chairman by Gov. Ben Ayade in 2019.
He executed 479 projects as SUBEB Chairman out of which 452 have been successfully completed.

Political Life:

He had a good working relationship with Senator Prof. Ben Ayade as PA and later as SA from 2011 to 2015, a period when he learnt the ropes of the workings and politics of the National Assembly and Nigerian as a country

Considered a great strategist, Dr. Stephen Odey PhD was appointed DG, PDP Campaign Council for Hon. Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe House Of Assembly reelection in 2019. As a think-thamk and strategist, he successfully completed the task that returned the honorable member elected.
