He noted that over 10,000 NITEL/Mtel pensioners were currently paid by the Federal Government through PTAD.
According to him, “We can only continue to pray for President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration that brought succour to us and in the management of the economy.
“We will continue to thank him because he has brought life back to all pensioners in the country. When he addressed the issue of pension, there was no discrimination. We all benefitted from this magnanimity and support that he gave to all of us. We are very grateful.”
Nakande, however, appealed to the Federal Government to commence the payment of 84 months backlog of arrears owed to them.
“We still want to remind Mr. President that the outstanding arrears of our pensions are still in limbo. It is about 84 months.
“We believe in the instructions that he has given. While we are reminding him, we want him to reiterate the instruction of those who are charged with the responsibility of paying these arrears, so that they can do it as quickly as possible,” he said.
He further urged the Federal Government to adjust their pension allowance, in view of the approval of the National Minimum Wage for workers in the country.
Commenting on the emergency National Executive Council meeting of the NITEL/Mtel Pensioners Association, which was convened to resolve the challenges of the leadership in the association, he explained that election would be conducted to elect the new President, to replace the President of the association who he said had been sick and incapacitated.
He noted that the new leadership was expected to injected additional vigour in the running of the affairs of the association.
Also speaking, Elder Moses Olabode, the Secretary of NITEL/Mtel Pensioners Association, expressed optimism that the backlog of their arrears of pension would be paid in no distant time.
Olabode also showered encomiums on the Federal Government for its consistency in the payment of pensions.
