Chelsea vs Southampton: Blues suffer major injury blow ahead of EPL clash

Chelsea has confirmed that their goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy, sustained a right thigh injury during a training session with Senegal’s national team this week.

Chelsea disclosed this in a statement via its official website ahead of their Premier League clash with Southampton on October 17.

Mendy was initially included in Senegal’s squad to face Morocco in an international friendly in Rabat on Friday night.

The 28-year-old returned to Chelsea where he will undergo further examinations ahead of their home clash with the Saints at Stamford Bridge.

The statement read: “The Senegalese Football Federation has announced the withdrawal from their squad of Edouard Mendy due to injury.

“The goalkeeper sustained an injury to his right thigh during training on Wednesday and had a medical examination in a hospital in Rabat, where Senegal is due to play Morocco tonight.

“Mendy has since returned to Chelsea where he will undergo further examinations.”

Mendy joined Chelsea for a reported 22 million pounds from French Ligue 1 side, Rennes in September.
