Nigeria Senate Affirms Tanko As Substantive CJN

The Senate on Wednesday affirmed the arrangement of Justice Tanko Muhammad as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria.

The red chamber had, on landing of Muhammad into the chamber, gone into a shut session to set the format for the screening.

Muhammad, who landed at the Senate at around 10:10am, was guided into the load around 11:13am.

He was went with to the red chamber by top legal executive officials in the nation.

The CJN responded to inquiries on defilement, organization of criminal equity and the poor subsidizing of the legal executive.

Muhammad has been acting CJN since January 25 when the then CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen, was suspended from office over supposed degenerate practices.

President Muhammadu Buhari had, last Thursday, sent to the Senate a letter mentioning the affirmation of Muhammad as substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria.

The President, in the letter of solicitation, said the selection was spin-off of proposal made with that impact by the National Judicial Council.

The letter, titled, ‘Arrangement of Chief Justice of Nigeria,’ peruses: “As per Section 231 (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as changed), which enables the President to name a Chief Justice of Nigeria on the proposal of the National Judicial Council and subject to the affirmation of the arrangement by the Senate, I have the pleasure to advance the assignment of Honorable Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammed for affirmation as Chief Justice of Nigeria.

“It is my expectation that this solicitation will get the typical quick thought of the recognized Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

In making the affirmation speedily, the Senate recorded it on its request paper on Tuesday, whereupon it made plans to do the screening at the advisory group of the entire on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 (today) .
