
Chioma Onyekwere made history by becoming the first Nigerian woman to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in the debate competition.
Onyekwere’s winning throw in the women’s discus competition was 61.70 metres, which set a new personal best for the season.
With a distance of 56.99 metres, fellow countrywoman Amaechi Amaechi won the bronze medal in the competition.
Jade Jally of England was awarded the silver medal for her performance in the competition.
In weightlifting, Osijo Mary won a bronze medal in the women’s 87KG event.
Mary lifted a total 236 KG to finish in third place.
