CALABAR – Tension has mounted in the camps of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the judgment of the governorship election by the Election Petitions Tribunal in Cross River State.
The Election Petition Tribunal had through its secretary, Josephine Ekperobe Esq, notified parties in the two governorship petition before it that judgments would be delivered on Thursday, September 12 by 9am.

Ekperobe told DAILY INDEPENDENT in Calabar that she had formally notified the two parties through their counsel concerning the date for the judgment.
It would be recalled that the two petitions resulted from the governorship election held in the state on March 9, 2019 with Suit Number EPT/Cal/Gov/01/2019 between Senator John Owan-Enoh of APC as petitioner versus the INEC and Governor Ben Ayade of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as respondents; and Suit Number EPT/Cal/Gov/02/2019 between Pastor Usani Uguru Usani, also of APC versus INEC and Governor Ben Ayade of Peoples Democratic Party as respondents.
Senator Owan-Enoh and Pastor Usani had laid claims to the single governorship ticket of the APC in the state, but the INEC on the eve of the election released a memo indicating that the name of Senator Owan-Enoh had been reinstated as the governorship candidate of the APC in the state.
An earlier published list by INEC of candidates of APC to various electoral positions in the state was delisted on February 22, 2019, few hours to the National Assembly elections.
The delisting done by INEC followed an order of a Federal High Court in a matter instituted by one Etim John and others against Dr. Mathew Achigbe (now late) and others as defendants, to resolve the crisis that brought about two factional leadership for the state executive council of the APC.
The two petitioners in the governorship election from APC in the state, both approached the tribunal on the similar grounds of exclusion, alleging that INEC unlawfully excluded the APC from a fair contest in the election which Governor Ben Ayade of the PDP was eventually declared the winner.
