Halima Salihu, the chairperson of the organising committee, confirmed on Thursday that the tournament would end today (Friday) amid fanfare and prize presentation which will begin at 3:00 p.m.
“We have been very busy with the children because the game started today (Thursday); the kids are really doing well, showing skills in their game. The skill the children are displaying is a proof that the future of the golf is bright in Nigeria,” Salihu said.
This above impression justifies Nancy Audu, Lady Captain of the IBB Club’s position that the preparations were in top gear to meet the demands of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Destiny Oyero, representing Lagos State was said to be on top of his game in the U-10 category after a scintillating performance on Thursday morning.
Yomi Oyero, the manager of Destiny in a phone chat from Abuja was confident that Destiny would top his category at the end of the competition.
“Destiny started on a good note in his category which is U-10; from the way he started today (Thursday), the putting and hitting of the ball was impressive, I’m very confident he will defend the title he won in the 2018 edition in this same golf course,” the manager said.
The IBB Junior Open is an annual tournament opened to participants from within and outside the country even as many prospective professionals have been discovered.
