Today 25th November, 2020. Morning Devotion at Akahi Tutors in Ile-ife.
The opening prayer was led by Agu Cecilia. The devotion was moderated by iyaji Joseph.
The scripture reading was taken from the Holy Gospel of Luke chapter 21 vs 12–19. It was read by Owolabi Mercy and the reflection was read by iyaji Joseph.
The Reflection : Today’s Gospel presents to us the cost of true discipleship. This entails persecution, imprisonment, betrayal by people especially our love ones.
If we look at the book of Apostles that is the Acts of Apostles, we will see that the apostles were not exempted from persecutions even Jesus Christ himself was betrayed by one of his disciples and was persecuted by us for the sins he knew nothing about.
If Jesus Christ himself was betrayed and persecuted when he was on earth then who are we not to be persecuted.
Anyone who wants to follow Christ must be ready for all these. For it is currently happening in the world.
It may not be really done to us how it was done to the Apostles but it will surely come in way of bitterness to test our faith and ground in Christ.
Christ said whoever that wants to follow him must hate his mother, father, wife and leave everything and carry his cross to follow him.
This does not mean we should hate our parents and people but it means that we should leave the things of the world and look up to him in everything we do.
Christ said whoever that is being persecuted for my sake should fear not for their name is written in heaven, that is the assurance Jesus gave to us.
Many Christians suffered for Christ sake so ours won’t be the first nor the last for He is the way, truth and life.
We pray that God in his infinite mercy will grant us the spirit of fortitude to remain faithful and be able to control ourselves so as not to deny Christ through Christ our Lord. Amen.
The concluding prayer was led by iyaji joy.
