Drama Looms As Activist Demands Action From Leadership Of NANS Over Death Of OAU Master’s Student, Timothy

Adeola Soetan, an activist and former Students’ Union President of Obafemi Awolowo University, has challenged the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) over the death of Timothy Adegoke, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) student of the institution.

Adegoke was in Ife to take his MBA examination when he was killed.

However, he was reported missing after lodging at Hilton Hotels and Resorts on Friday, November 5 preceding his tests scheduled for Saturday, November 6 and Sunday, November 7.

SaharaReporters had reported that it was noticed that Adegoke was missing when his wife could not reach him on the phone.

Meanwhile, he had earlier contacted his wife to inform her that he was staying in a hotel.

Following an investigation by the police, money paid by Adegoke for lodging was traced to one Adesola, an employee of the hotel.

A source told SaharaReporters that the owner of the hotel, who also owns Oduduwa University, Rahman Adegoke Adedoyin and other workers initially denied that Adegoke was at the hotel.

Meanwhile, the victim’s body was discovered after some suspects, including workers at the hotel were arrested by the police.

In a statement, Soetan commended and appreciated NANS Zone D Coordinator and his executives for prioritising the matter.

He asked other zones to address the issue in solidarity as “an injury to one is an injury to all.”

The former OAU Students’ Union President asked for the intervention of the national leadership of NANS in the matter, he described as sensitive.

He said, “The murder of Mr Timothy Adegoke Oludare, a younger brother of our Prof Oludare Ogunlana, aka Above Jordan has taken a national significance. While commending and appreciating the 3 day-old NANS Zone D Coordinator and his executives for their prioritisation of the matter, we expect other Zones to address this issue in solidarity as AN INJURY TO ONE IS AN INJURY TO ALL.

“We await the intervention of the national leadership of the NANS in this sensitive matter. Oludare Ogunlana, aka Above Jordan of the University of Ibadan was elected the NANS President in December 1996 at the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma. He handed (over) the reins in December 1997 to Bashir Abdullahi from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria at the Convention held in the Federal College of Education, Katsina-Ala, Benue State.

“History will never be kind to anyone or any group of people who attempt and/or conspire with the agents of hell to undermine this issue.”
