The police in Ogun State have confirmed that eight members of feared cult gangs were apprehended during special operations carried out to put a stop to the violent activities of cultists in the state.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, an Ogun police spokesperson, informed reporters that the suspects were apprehended following brutal skirmishes in Abeokuta and Itori that left four people dead.

According to Oyeyemi, the four people died as a result of a supremacy battle between members of the Aiye and Eiye cult groups, which have recently terrorized various parts of the state.

To curb the excesses of the cultists, the State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole was said to have ordered a massive manhunt for any member of either of the groups.

As a result, the police Spokesman disclosed that all the command’s tactical teams had launched special operations to flush out the hoodlums.

The operations, it was gathered, led to the arrest of Toheeb Erinoso, Sanya Ayinde, Monsuru Akindele, Olufunso Moyo, Ramon Oyetola, Adeoba Saheed, Akinyemi Olamide and Babalola Rasaq.

Oyeyemi hinted that the suspects were apprehended in different parts of Ogun State with three locally-made guns, adding that “they have confessed their membership of Aiye and Eiye confraternities.”

Meanwhile, the police commissioner has ordered that the special operation continues “until all the hoodlums terrorizing the people are flushed out.”

“He also appealed to parents to call their children and wards to order, as anyone caught fomenting trouble under any guise will be decisively dealt with.”
