“Stop Police Brutality, Increase police salaries to end extortion, You messed with the wrong generation, Reform the police immediately, We are humans not lab rats, End SARS not disband SARS, etc”, with the hashtag #EndSARS., they demanded.
Recall that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, had on Sunday announced that SARS has been scrapped but Nigerians want the government to show actual evidence of scrapping.
Reacting, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Ntufam Mba Ukweni regretted the action of the Nigeria Police saying that the corrupt and criminally-minded persons in the Police Force cannot be reformed by the change of guard.
Ukweni said the dissolution of Special Anti – Robbery Squad (SARS) by Inspector General of Police (IGP) was not the solution, “Government should think of a more reasonable and enduring solution to the problem in the Nigeria Police Force and the society at large.
“It only helps them to change their strategy and evolve a new way of continuing with their entrenched habits. What is needed in the Police and the society at large is total reformation and change of character” he suggested.
