Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, confirmed the delay of the Nigerians from South Africa.
Speaking with journalists at the Hajj and Cargo Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Aircraft (MMIA), Lagos, Dabiri-Erewa said that the delay of the flight from South Africa was caused by the South African authorities, but could not confirm the blockage of the Nigerians by some protesting youths in that country.
She said: ‘ The delay of Nigerians from departing from South Africa was due to clearance issue from South African authorities. Whichever way, we know they’re coming today.’
As at the time of filing this report, the Air Peace aircraft’s Boeing 777 that was deployed to evacuate the Nigerians was still in South Africa.
South Africa to Nigeria is about six hours of flight.
Journalists from various media houses are already on the ground at the Lagos Airport, awaiting the arrival of the returnees.
