Group Partners NANS On Mobile App To End Sexual Harrasment On Campuses

ABUJA – A non-governmental organisations, Gender Mobile Initiative (GMI), which is a platform established in response to the alarming social injustices especially against women and the girl child, has partnered with National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to develop a mobile application to end the scourge of sexual violence against women.

At a meeting recently in Abuja where a memorandum of commitment was signed between the group and NANS leadership led by its Senate President, Muhammad Gambo, the programme manager of GMI, Yusuf Rasheed, who represented the Executive Director for the group, Ogunrotimi Omowumi, said GMI was aimed at raising more awareness, mobilising campaign and driving action towards improving both individual and institutional response to all patterns of social injustice against the teeming demography.

According to Rasheed; “We received the leadership of NANS in our office today essentially to set the agenda for GMI’s ongoing effort in tertiary institutions, funded by the Ford Foundation.

“This highlighted the partnership between us and NANS for the purpose of developing a model anti-sexual harassment policy and a mobile app that will reflect and address the unique needs and aspirations of Nigerian students.

“To this effect, a memorandum of commitment is signed between GMI and NANS to enable us have a seamless exercise, with the NANS team fully on board,” he said.
