Masari Mourns NUJ Secretary, Commiserates With Katsina Council, Family

Katsina – Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Secretary of the Katsina State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Alhaji Aliyu Yunusa Kofarsoro, saying that the state has lost a very vibrant, dynamic and up-and-coming journalist in the prime of his life and profession.

In a statement signed by his Director General, Media, Abdu Labaran Malumfashi, Governor Masari particularly extolled the deceased’s friendly disposition and can-do spirit, which he described as endearing attributes that need to be part of the character traits of professional communicators.

In further extolling the virtues of the late Aliyu Yunusa, the Katsina State Governor urged journalists in the state to borrow a leaf from the late NUJ scribe by showing total love and commitment to their professional calling.

While condoling the Katsina State NUJ Council, the management and staff of the Katsina State Television and the immediate family of the decease, the Governor urged them to keep faith in the wisdom of Allah (SWT) Who saw it fit to take the life of Aliyu at the time when the sky appeared to be the limit of his professional progression.

He also urged them to take consolation in the fact that all living souls must taste death, regardless of the years of existence.

Masari then prayed to Allah (SWT) to forgive the deceased his sins and other shortcomings and rest him in paradise, as well as give the bereaved the fortitude to bear the loss.

Meanwhile, the remains of the Secretary, Katsina State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Aliyu Yunusa Kofar- Soro who died Saturday has been laid to rest at Dantakum graveyard in the state capital.

Earlier before his interment, the Chief Imam of katsina central mosque, Malam Gambo Mustapha led hundreds of mourners for the funeral prayers for the deceased at the Kangiwa Square, Kofar-Soro.

Prominent amongst the personalities that attended the deceased burial included the Katsina State APC Chairman, Alhaji Shitu S. Shitu, the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Yau Umar Gwajo-Gwajo and other top officials of the ministry.

Similarly, in attendance were the Media Chief Executives, senior management staff of the various media houses, the chairman NUJ correspondents chapter, Comrade Abdulhamid Sabo, colleagues and friends as well as other sympathizers.

Late Alhaji Aliyu Yunusa Kofar-Soro aged 47, is survived by one wife and six children.

The deceased who was a staff of the Katsina State Television- KTTV served as Press Secretary in the state Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and held other several positions within the NUJ before being elected as the Secretary to the State council of the Union earlier this year.
