NSCDC Arrests Two Islamic Clerics Over Alleged Torture of Minors in Ondo

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested two Islamic clerics in Owo, Ondo State, over the alleged torture and abuse of two minors under their care, in a development that has renewed attention on child protection and discipline practices in religious learning centres.

Akahi News gathered that the suspects, identified as Adebodun Muideen, 30, of Al-Balaagul-Mubeen Arabic and Islamic Centre, and Oladejo Musiliu, 35, of Abdullah Arabic and Islamic Centre, were apprehended following a complaint lodged by the Kids and Teens Resource Centre, a child-rights advocacy organisation.

The Ondo State Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, Daniel Aidamenbor, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Thursday, February 5, 2026.

According to the statement, the case came to light after a class teacher reportedly noticed multiple injuries on two boys and alerted the advocacy organisation, which subsequently reported the matter to the authorities.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the children, whose parents reside in Osun State, had been sent to Owo for Qur’anic studies while also attending conventional school.

Allegations of Abuse and Investigation Findings

Aidamenbor explained that the alleged incident began when one of the minors returned from school with an Android mobile phone and was unable to explain how he obtained it. During questioning, the second boy was reportedly implicated, after which both children were allegedly subjected to severe physical punishment that resulted in serious injuries.

The NSCDC spokesperson described the act as a violation of the Child Rights Act and the Ondo State Child Protection Law, stressing that violence against minors remains a criminal offence regardless of circumstance.

Akahi News learnt that the suspects allegedly confessed during interrogation and would be charged to court for offences bordering on assault and child abuse upon completion of investigations.

NSCDC Warns Against Child Abuse

The Corps warned religious institutions, parents, and guardians against unlawful punishment of children, emphasising the need to uphold child protection laws across all learning environments.

Aidamenbor also commended the prompt intervention of the Kids and Teens Resource Centre, urging members of the public to report suspected cases of child abuse to security agencies to prevent further harm.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of safeguarding children’s rights and ensuring that disciplinary measures remain within the bounds of the law. Authorities say continued collaboration between schools, advocacy groups, and security agencies remains essential in protecting vulnerable minors.
