The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, has secured a second term in office following his re-election at the party’s state congress.
The congress, held on Tuesday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos, was attended by no fewer than 2,000 delegates drawn from across the state. Ojelabi and other members of the State Executive Committee were returned through a consensus arrangement endorsed by voice affirmation.

Consensus Process Conducted Under Party Constitution
The Chairman of the State Congress Committee, Mrs Stella Okotete, announced the consensus list of State Executive Committee members, which was endorsed by delegates.
In her address, Okotete described Lagos as the heartbeat of progressive politics and the proud home of President Bola Tinubu. She emphasised that the congress was conducted in line with Article 20 of the party’s constitution, which provides guidelines for the conduct of state congresses.
“The congress must be democratic, transparent and in strict compliance with the Constitution of our party. When consensus is adopted, it must follow due process as described,” she said.
“This congress is not a contest of enemies. It is a contest of progressive family members united by ideology.”
She reminded aspirants and delegates that eligibility to contest and vote was guided strictly by constitutional provisions. According to her, only registered members who fulfilled necessary requirements, including payment of prescribed fees and compliance with eligibility conditions, were qualified to participate.
“Our mandate is clear. It is to ensure a peaceful, credible and orderly congress that reflects the unity and maturity of our great party,” she added.
Sanwo-Olu Commends Party Supremacy
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, commended the party for demonstrating unity and supremacy across the country.
“In the entire country, we have demonstrated that the party is supreme,” he said. “For us in Lagos, we are strengthened by the unity of purpose.”
Sanwo-Olu extended appreciation to President Tinubu, noting that under his leadership the party continues to create room for participation while maintaining its core objectives. He added that the Lagos chapter remains unmatched in structure and cohesion.
Ojelabi Reflects on Achievements
In his acceptance speech, Ojelabi highlighted the party’s strengthened structure and electoral successes over the past four years.
“As I reflect on the journey of the past four years, I am filled with pride in all we have accomplished together, from strengthening our party structure to securing victories at IPUs,” he said.
“We have demonstrated that the APC is not just a party, but a movement—a movement for progress.”
He described upcoming elections as an opportunity to showcase unity and collective resolve, urging members to deepen engagement and work collaboratively to sustain good governance and development in Lagos and Nigeria.
“The future of Lagos State and Nigeria depends on our dedication and our ability to work together,” he said. “Let us strengthen our bonds, reach out to every community, and ensure that no voice is left unheard.”
Youth and Women Inclusion Emphasised
Ojelabi addressed the younger generation, pointing to what he described as practical steps toward inclusion. He stated that all 376 councillors in Lagos fall within the youth age bracket.
He also highlighted the election of the youngest assistant woman leader for the state chapter as part of deliberate efforts to empower women and youth within the party structure.
“To the younger generation, you will see the practical demonstration we have displayed,” he said. “We have 376 councillors, all within the age bracket. Today, you can see another practicalisation of our intention to strengthen women’s participation.”
