Niger Police Command has grilled Mohammed Jibril Imam, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State, over alleged financial misappropriation.
Commissioner of Police, Adamu Usman, made the disclosure on Tuesday.
He said the APC official was accused of misusing party finances “since he assumed office in 2015”.
The CP told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna that a petition against Imam accused him of misusing funds realised from the sale of Expression of Interest forms.
The petitioners claimed that the party chairman spent the funds “unilaterally and without due process”.
The Police boss disclosed that the petition was written by some members of the APC Executive Council in Niger.
“We are investigating the matter and shall get to the root of it. We want to find out if there is any substance in the claims. The Nigeria Police has the responsibility to investigate any form of criminal complaint from any citizen of the state”, he said.
CP Usman added that the Police was handling the matter professionally to ensure that justice is done to all sides.
