A wave of grief has swept through social media circles following the sudden death of Orowole Samuel Kolapoz, popularly known as Kola Onifoto, who reportedly lost his life after a motorcycle accident just weeks after celebrating his dream of becoming a biker.

Kola, aged 35, succumbed to injuries sustained in a crash shortly after announcing his first solo ride from Lagos to Akure — a journey he had eagerly shared with friends and followers online.
A Journey That Ended Too Soon
According to information gathered by Akahi News, Kola had posted on Facebook on Sunday, March 1, expressing excitement about embarking on his first solo motorcycle trip out of Lagos to Akure. In the post, he reportedly wrote that he was heading out on the journey, brimming with enthusiasm.
However, within hours of that announcement, distressing updates began circulating on social media. Friends and associates revealed that he had allegedly been involved in a serious road accident.

Sources indicated that he was initially rushed to an emergency unit at a Federal Road Safety Corps facility located at 7UP, Ojota, in Lagos before being transferred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital for advanced medical attention.
Despite what friends described as determined efforts by medical personnel and fervent prayers from loved ones, Kola was confirmed dead on March 2.
From Dream Achieved to Devastating Loss
The painful irony of the incident has not gone unnoticed. Just weeks earlier, on January 15, Kola had celebrated becoming a biker — describing it as one of his lifelong dreams finally achieved.
In a social media post shared at the time, he posed proudly beside his motorcycle and expressed gratitude for reaching that milestone. The post, which has since resurfaced widely, has drawn emotional reactions, particularly because of the optimism he expressed about his new chapter.
Observers note that his story highlights how quickly circumstances can change, especially on Nigeria’s highways, where road safety remains a pressing concern.
A Life of Many Talents
Beyond his passion for motorcycling, Kola was known to be a versatile and industrious individual. Akahi News gathered that he worked as a photographer and was admired for his creative eye behind the camera. He also reportedly drove for Uber, served as a naval officer, and engaged in writing.
Friends describe him as ambitious, energetic, and deeply committed to self-development. His varied pursuits reflected a personality that embraced both creativity and service.
Social media platforms have since been flooded with tributes. On Facebook and on X, formerly known as Twitter, friends and admirers have shared heartfelt messages recalling his kindness, resilience, and infectious enthusiasm.
Road Safety in Focus
While authorities have yet to release detailed findings regarding the exact cause of the crash, the incident has reignited conversations about motorcycle safety and the risks associated with long-distance road travel.
Nigeria continues to record a significant number of road traffic accidents annually, with motorcycles often considered particularly vulnerable on major highways. Safety experts frequently stress the importance of protective gear, adherence to traffic regulations, and heightened caution during interstate journeys.
Analysts argue that beyond individual responsibility, systemic issues such as road conditions, enforcement gaps, and driver behaviour also play a role in many accidents.
A Sobering Reminder
Kola Onifoto’s passing serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the unpredictability of road travel. What began as a joyful declaration of independence and adventure turned, within hours, into a tragedy that has left family, friends, and colleagues in mourning.
As loved ones continue to process the loss, many have called for greater awareness around road safety and more deliberate efforts to protect lives on Nigerian highways.
Akahi News extends heartfelt condolences to Kola’s family, friends, and all who were touched by his life and work. His story, though painfully brief, has left an imprint on many — a testament to a life lived with passion and bold ambition.
