Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund(TETFUND) Professor Suleiman Elias Bogoro has reiterated the needs for universities and other tertiary institutions to deepen research and development contents in their systems.
He spoke in Sokoto where he expressed belief in the capacity of institutions to drive innovative and competitive requirements that will propel the economy.
Bogoro noted that the world was fast driven by knowledge contents to revolutionise key areas for sustained economic prosperity.
” Nigeria must not be an exception on that path of positive economic transition that would encourage Research and Development in our universities system,” he stressed.
Bogoro further explained that TETFUND would not compromise its objects of a support organ for advancing beneficial course that will promote excellence in tertiary institutions.
According to him: ” A Professor can never be relevant as an agent of innovative ideas without embracing Research and Development contents through purposeful knowledge inquest and investigations.
“TETFund realises all these and that is why we apply our funds with caution and high sense of responsibility to key contents components’ .
” We have every reason to emphasise on research repeatedly. Therefore, the fund will ensure that each of the six geo-political zones has 3 Universities(1st and 2nd generation) with well equipped centres of excellence and be supported for 5 years. ABU Zaria, BUK and UDUS will be for the northwest.”
He restated TETFUND commitment to encouraging intra- disciplinary laboratory, a futuristic vision at the agency which would amiably strengthen research components for enhanced academic excellence in key aspects.
