…As Barr Ogar Eba, High Chief Higgins, Sen Odey, Hon Fabian Ogbeche, Hon Stella Odey, Hon Anyogo, Hon Nkasi, Hon Ulafor speak on the way forward
The critical stakeholders, leaders and members of the various organs and leadership structure of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) across the two state constituency of Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State have have resolved to work together as a family in the interest of unity and growth of the party in the local government, northern senatorial district, the state and nation at large.
The meeting, which was held on Friday, December 31, 2021, the eve of the New Year 2022, brought the presence of notable and eminent personalities as well as reputable politicians together to chart a new course for the great good of Yala as a people and as a local government. It was convened by High Chief Higgins Oko Peters and held at his Oba Okpoma country home, now named as APC House.
In his address, the Cross River APC State Chairman elect, Alphonsus Ogar Eba, while thanking His Excellency the Governor, Sen Prof Ben Ayade and the people of Yala for their support, appealed to the stakeholders to strengthen the party by mobilising their people in their ward to register as members of the party.
He said in line with constitution of the party, the polling unit structure should be put in place to give the party presence across the over two hundred polling units in Yala, noting that, ” family that prays together and live together are surely going to live for a very long time and become successful in all they do.”
He therefore called for continuous meetings in all the polling units adding that the polling unit structures should be headed by very committed members with 50/50 sharing formula with 40 percent slot for men.
He also announced that the window for registration as members of the party have been extended by one month. And prayed for peace, love, unity and growth of Yala.
High Chief in his thank you remarks stated that the unity of Yala and the party is more supreme at this point in time. While describing Senator Odey as the strongest politician and called for active participatory party politics and appealed all to support leaders with capacity to deliver and help the party win election.
He urged the party stakeholders to be committed to the growth of Yala and the party, stated that the time has come for all leader to put their pocket where their mouth is and stop paying lip service to grow the party.
While describing Sen Stephen Odey as one of the strongest politician today in Cross River State, High Chief Higgins said, “What is politics, politics is numbers. Where are scared of the north why, because they have population. Today, I can tell you, soon we will be saying will Stephen Odey agree? If you are not committed, another will take your office.”
Speaking during the meeting, Senator Stephen Odey said, “I want to charge you as we enter 2022 let us remain focused and steadfast, let us be committed to the course as being preached by the state chairman of our great party. You are all aware I won my election and you all know what transpired, but let’s leave it all to God.
“But I want to charge you all, particularly the appointees, if you have the conscience, you have the mind to appreciate what His Excellency Governor of Cross River State has done for us, then we don’t need to sell out. The problem I have and what I noticed during my election, you see people smiling with you in the afternoon and at night they turn out to become a different human being.
“As we enter 2022, let us change, so that whoever will represent us in the next by-election, would not suffer the fate I suffered.
“We are all one. I have always told you, if you do good to me, tomorrow I will reciprocate. I am not like others you do good to tomorrow and the next day they pay you the other way. That is not the type of politics we should play.
“Let us see ourselves as one united family. And of course the state chairman of the party is doing a great job. Let us support him. Let us show the world that Cross River State is APC. The Governor did well by taking us to this party. And we must demonstrate that.
“Let us return back to our respective wards, hold our wards very strong, come out together and the deliver APC in the next by-election. And together 2023 will be a walk over.
“I charge all of us to stand firm. Let us deliver ad show the world that the majority that are seated here own Cross River State.
Rt Hon Anyogo in her remarks restated that the stakeholders will continue to remain loyal to the party and leadership of the party, the Governor, Sir Ben Ayade. She assured that Yala stakeholders are ready to mobilise Yala sons and daughter to register as members of the party and that in the coming election Yala will show the opposition that the APC is the only party to beat in Yala.
On her part, Hon Cynthia Nkasi noted that the state Constituency 2 she represents at the state house of Assembly are in total agreement with the decisions of the leadership of the party and are ready and determined to continue to mobilise the people of Ukelle to keep the APC on the winning side.
The chairman of council, Hon Fabian in while making his remarks, thanked the stakeholders for their support and appealed for their continual support to the Governor and all the elected leaders. He also called for unity of the people of Yala to grow and strengthen the party under the leadership of the state chairman, who is an illustrious son of Yala.
The commissioner for local government affairs, Hon Dr Stella Odey-Ekpo, in her remarks thanked High Chief Higgins for bringing everyone together to move Yala forward as a bridge builder. She described Yala as a well civilised people and assured that in Ugaga Ward the leaders will continue in the spirit of evangelism and win the ward for the party. Stated further that Yala is proud of Gov Ayade and urged for more support for the APC as the party that will bring more dividend of democracy to Yala LGA.
Speaking in the same vein, Hon John Ulafor urged all to be consistent followers as party men and women and not be like those people who are given to change.
He said, “Everybody is talking about peace, unity and togetherness. There is No anxiety. Nobody will die if you don’t go to the national assembly. The unity that the Yala people has initiated on the 31st of December 2021 ably led by our High Chief Higgins is what we all would draw a prayer meeting for every morning
The various leaders commended High Chief Higgins Peters for taking the initiative to fill in the gap of bringing all stakeholders together under one roof.
COMMUNIQUE ARISING FROM THE YALA APC STAKEHOLDERS MEETING HELD ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 31, 2021 AT THE RESIDENCE OF HIGH CHIEF HIGGINS PETERS IN OKPOMA, YALA LGA HEADQUARTERS
The stakeholders meeting was well attended by critical stakeholders and leaders across the 14 wards of Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, and resolved as follows,
- That the great people of Yala LGA unanimously passed resounding vote of confidence on His Excellency the Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prof Ben Ayade’s leadership of the state and the party.
- That the entire people of Yala welcome the APC State Chairman Elect, Alphonsus Ogar Eba Esq home after his election and also welcome Senator Dr Stephen Odey home after his ease from the Senate and decides to leave all that transpired with the Senatorial seat to the hands of God.
- That the entire people of Yala specially appreciates His Excellency, Governor, Sen Prof Ben Ayade for finding a Yala son worthy as State Chairman of the APC and thanks him for all the ongoing projects in Yala, the Okuku-Okpoma-Mfom dual carriageway project, and made a formal appeal that the Ukelle Road, Okuku-Imaje- Echumofana-Akurinyi-Abuochiche single lane, Okuku-Echumoga-Aliforkpa Yache road should be considered along the same line by the Governor.
- That the entire Yala people declared their total commitment to the APC and have resolved to work for the victory of the party in all coming elections.
- That the entire Yala LGA will stand by the Governor in the choice of who fly the ticket of the party in the by-election for Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency.
- Yala APC family resolved to work with the Governor towards the process of producing his successor in 2023.
- That the entire Yala LGA have also committed themselves to embark on massive registration exercise of new members into the party with the window of the one month extension and the ongoing INEC registration exercise.
- And that the political ward leaders across the 14 wards of Yala have resolved to collaborate with all political appointees and major stakeholders to mobilise resources and fund the party registration, INEC Voter’s card registration exercises and the new polling units structure that will be put in place.
