IGP Egbetokun Urges New Officers to Uphold Honour, Diligence, and Patriotism
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has successfully passed out a total of 10,000 newly trained Constables following the completion of an intensive training programme across various Police Colleges and Training Institutions nationwide. The development marks a significant step in the Force’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its operational manpower and improve security delivery in line with international policing standards.

According to a statement issued by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force Public Relations Officer, the Passing Out Parade took place simultaneously on Monday, October 7, 2025, at all designated training institutions across the country. The event represents another milestone in the Force’s sustained recruitment and professional development agenda under the administration of Inspector-General of Police, Dr Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM.
A New Phase in Police Modernisation and National Security
The latest batch of recruits forms part of the Police Reform and Capacity Enhancement Strategy, which aims to address manpower gaps, improve response efficiency, and deepen public confidence in law enforcement.
Akahi News gathered that earlier in January 2025, another 10,000 constables had similarly completed training, bringing the total to 20,000 new officers absorbed into the system within the year — a notable effort toward addressing Nigeria’s growing security challenges.
The training, according to the Force Headquarters, was designed not only to impart operational knowledge but also to embed ethical conduct, civic responsibility, and emotional intelligence among officers.
IGP’s Charge: “Serve with Honour and Diligence”
While addressing the newly graduated constables, IGP Egbetokun commended their perseverance, dedication, and discipline throughout the course. He urged them to carry forward the core values instilled during their training — honour, diligence, patriotism, and integrity — into their daily policing duties.
“You have been found worthy in character and learning. Uphold the noble values of this institution and remember that every act of misconduct undermines the collective trust the public places in us,” the IGP was quoted as saying.
He emphasised the importance of community partnership, intelligence-led policing, and respect for human rights, stressing that modern policing in Nigeria requires professionalism and empathy in dealing with citizens.
Training Focus: Modern Standards for a Complex Security Landscape
Reports obtained by Akahi News indicate that the recruits were exposed to a comprehensive curriculum incorporating both theoretical and field-based modules.
Key areas of training included:
- Community-oriented policing and collaboration with local stakeholders.
- Human rights and ethical conduct in law enforcement.
- Cybersecurity awareness and digital intelligence.
- Crisis and crowd management.
- Judicious use of firearms and non-lethal methods of restraint.
- Counter-terrorism and crime prevention strategies.
These modules are part of the Force’s commitment to aligning Nigeria’s policing structure with global best practices and equipping officers with modern tools to handle 21st-century threats such as cybercrime, terrorism, and organised violence.
Sustaining Reforms and Improving Welfare
In his remarks, IGP Egbetokun reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to continuous training, improved welfare, and institutional reforms that would sustain ongoing progress in policing excellence. He noted that enhanced personnel welfare, transparent promotions, and access to modern equipment remain priorities of the current police leadership.
“Our vision is to build a Police Force that Nigerians can trust — one that is efficient, accountable, and responsive to the needs of every community,” Egbetokun stated.
He also urged the new constables to embrace discipline and professionalism, promising that their contributions would be instrumental in ensuring a safer and more secure Nigeria.
Nationwide Deployment and Strategic Impact
The 10,000 constables will be deployed across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to strengthen policing presence in communities and improve security coverage in rural and urban centres alike.
Analysts believe this development will ease the pressure on existing police formations, boost intelligence gathering, and enhance crime response time nationwide. The initiative also reflects the Federal Government’s broader goal of achieving a citizen-centric, technology-driven, and transparent police service.
Strengthening the Future of Policing
The mass graduation of 10,000 constables across Nigeria symbolises more than an expansion of personnel — it represents a renewed vision for public safety, professionalism, and ethical service delivery.
As the recruits begin their official duties, expectations are high that they will embody the principles of honour, diligence, and patriotism championed by the IGP, contributing meaningfully to national peace and security.
The Nigeria Police Force, through consistent reforms and manpower investments, appears determined to redefine policing as a service built on trust, respect, and accountability.
