The family of Abba, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who was abducted by suspected kidnappers, has announced plans to hold a Janaza prayer in absentia (Salat al-Gha’ib) following weeks of uncertainty and silence from his captors.
According to information gathered by Akahi News, the decision came after the kidnappers allegedly ceased all communication with the family despite receiving a ransom payment of ₦10 million.
The development has deepened fears about the young corps member’s fate and highlights the painful dilemma many Nigerian families face when dealing with kidnapping cases.
Kidnappers Allegedly Cut Off Communication After Ransom Payment
Sources close to the family told Akahi News that Abba’s relatives had earlier complied with the kidnappers’ demands by raising and paying a ₦10 million ransom in hopes of securing his release.
However, shortly after the payment was made, the abductors reportedly cut off all contact, leaving the family without any update regarding Abba’s condition or whereabouts.
Akahi News gathered that the kidnappers later demanded additional items, including motorcycles, but the family has now resolved not to meet any further demands.
Family members say the prolonged silence from the abductors has left them emotionally devastated and uncertain about the possibility of Abba’s safe return.
Family Announces Janaza Prayer (Gha’ib)
In line with Islamic tradition, the family has announced plans to hold a Janaza prayer (Gha’ib) for Abba on Friday, 6 March.
The prayer, which is performed in absentia when a deceased person’s body is unavailable, reflects the family’s painful acceptance of the uncertainty surrounding his fate.
According to relatives, the decision was taken after consultations with religious leaders and elders who advised that the prayer could be held while still leaving room for hope should Abba eventually be found alive.
Akahi News understands that members of the community, friends, and sympathisers are expected to join the family in offering prayers during the solemn gathering.
Family Expresses Gratitude to Supporters
Despite the tragedy surrounding the situation, Abba’s family has expressed deep appreciation to individuals, organisations, and well-wishers who supported them throughout the ordeal.

The family concluded their message with a heartfelt prayer:
If Abba is still alive wherever he may be, they prayed that God would grant him strength and secure his swift release.
However, if he has passed on, they asked Allah to forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds, and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.
Observers note that the situation once again highlights the growing insecurity and kidnapping crisis affecting many parts of Nigeria, where families often face agonising decisions while trying to save loved ones.
For now, Abba’s family continues to hold onto faith while preparing for the Janaza prayer and asking the public to keep them in their prayers during this painful time.
