Lagere, Ile-Ife – August 3, 2025 –
The silver jubilee celebration of priestly service for Rev. Fr Peter Adeyemi, Parish Priest of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Pro-Cathedral, Lagere, Ile-Ife, reached a touching moment when a vibrant voice of the parish youth, Adegbite Catherine, stood before the congregation to pay heartfelt tribute to his leadership and impact.

Adegbite Catherine, former Youth President of the parish and a respected figure within the Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (CYON), was specially chosen to speak on behalf of all parish youth members. In her remarks, she described Fr Adeyemi as a priest whose dedication, humility, and spiritual guidance have inspired not only the young people but the entire parish community.
Speaking with a mix of joy and sincerity, Catherine praised the Parish Priest for his pastoral care, openness to dialogue, and genuine concern for the wellbeing of parishioners. She noted that his leadership style—marked by accessibility, discipline, and encouragement—has strengthened the faith of many and created an environment where youth feel valued and empowered.
“We, the youth of SS. Peter and Paul, are deeply grateful for the way you have led us. Your example has shown us that leadership is service, and service is love. You have inspired us to take active roles in the parish, to serve with dedication, and to grow in our faith,” she said during her address.
The celebration, held on Sunday, 3rd August 2025, drew an impressive crowd of parishioners, dignitaries, and well-wishers who gathered to honour Fr Adeyemi’s 25 years of priestly ministry. The day was filled with thanksgiving, cultural displays, choir renditions, and presentations from various groups within the parish.
For the youth, Catherine’s tribute was more than a formal address—it was a collective expression of gratitude from a generation that has grown under the priest’s guidance. Her words reflected the deep sense of belonging and unity fostered by Fr Adeyemi, whose years of service in Lagere have been defined by active community engagement and spiritual mentorship.
Rev. Fr Peter Adeyemi, widely respected in the Catholic Diocese of Osogbo, is known not only for his pastoral responsibilities but also for his commitment to nurturing young people in leadership and moral responsibility. His priestly ministry has been marked by projects that have strengthened parish infrastructure, liturgical life, and community cohesion.
The anniversary was a joyful reminder of the bonds that connect priest and parish. In the closing moments of her speech, Catherine expressed the hope of all CYON members that God would continue to bless Fr Adeyemi with health, wisdom, and the grace to keep serving with passion and compassion.
As the event came to a close, the parish community—young and old alike—left with renewed appreciation for a shepherd who has given his life to the service of God and His people. For many, the celebration was not just about 25 years of priesthood, but about the living legacy of faith, unity, and selfless service that Fr Adeyemi embodies.
