Adelabu Assures Nigerians of Improved Power Supply in 2026 After ‘Foundational’ 2025

Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has assured Nigerians that 2026 will usher in a more stable, reliable, and sustainable electricity supply, following what he described as a year of intensive groundwork and strategic reforms in 2025.

The minister said the past year was deliberately used to fix long-standing structural weaknesses in the power sector, laying the foundation for tangible improvements that citizens and businesses are expected to feel more significantly in 2026.

Speaking on recent developments in the electricity sector, Adelabu explained that 2025 was not about quick wins but about addressing deep-rooted challenges that have plagued Nigeria’s power industry for decades. These include transmission bottlenecks, liquidity constraints, infrastructure decay, and coordination gaps across the power value chain.

Akahi News learnt that the Ministry of Power focused on strengthening generation capacity, improving transmission efficiency, and supporting distribution companies to enhance service delivery. According to the minister, these reforms are already yielding early signs of progress, which are expected to translate into visible improvements this year.

He noted that “power is not just about megawatts; it is about reliability, access, and sustainability,” stressing that government interventions were designed to deliver long-term stability rather than temporary relief.

What Nigerians Should Expect in 2026

Adelabu assured that 2026 would mark a turning point for electricity consumers across the country, with improved power availability for households, industries, and small businesses. He said ongoing projects aimed at expanding generation capacity and upgrading transmission infrastructure would begin to reflect in reduced outages and better grid performance.

According to observers, improved electricity supply could significantly ease the burden on manufacturers and small enterprises who currently rely heavily on expensive alternative power sources.

Akahi News gathered that the Federal Government is also prioritising off-grid and renewable energy solutions as part of a broader plan to ensure electricity reaches underserved and rural communities.

Industry Confidence and Economic Impact

Analysts believe that sustained improvements in power supply could boost investor confidence, reduce production costs, and stimulate economic growth. The minister emphasised that a reliable power sector is critical to job creation, industrial expansion, and national development.

He added that the ministry is working closely with relevant agencies and private sector players to ensure reforms are implemented transparently and efficiently.

While Nigerians have heard similar promises in the past, Adelabu urged citizens to judge the administration by results rather than rhetoric. He expressed confidence that the groundwork laid in 2025 would make 2026 a year of visible and meaningful progress in the power sector.

As the year unfolds, stakeholders and electricity consumers alike will be watching closely to see whether the promised improvements translate into more consistent power supply nationwide.
