All Souls’ Day: Rev. Fr Stevenson Olowolagba Urges Believers to Hold Firm to Christ, the Resurrection and Life
A Call to Faith and Hope on All Souls’ Day
The Parish Priest of St Dominic Catholic Church, Ifewara, Osun State, Rev. Fr Stevenson Olowolagba, has urged Christians to deepen their faith in Jesus Christ, the “Resurrection and the Life,” as the Church commemorates All Souls’ Day on 2 November 2025.
In his Sunday reflection made available to Akahi News, the cleric centred his message on the theme: “I am the Resurrection and Life, Whoever Believes in Me, Though He Dies, I Will Raise Him Up on the Last Day.”

Drawing from the day’s readings — Wisdom 3:1–9, Romans 5:5–11, and Luke 7:11–17 — Fr Olowolagba emphasised that the commemoration of All Souls’ Day reminds believers of God’s infinite love and His power over death.
“Wisdom is a Breath of the Power of God”
Reflecting on the Book of Wisdom, the priest described divine wisdom as “a breath of the power of God and a pure emanation of His glory.” According to him, this wisdom is personified in Christ, the “Logos” — the Word made flesh — who came to redeem humanity from the bondage of sin and death.
He said:
“It was the devil that corrupted creation by introducing death. Now, the Wisdom of God is correcting the ravage of death. Jesus came into the world to arise from the dead and to conquer death for man. His resurrection stands for every man’s desperate need to be acceptable to God.”
Fr Olowolagba further explained that Christ’s resurrection is not only a victory over death but also a divine assurance that believers will share in eternal life.
God’s Love Manifested Through Christ’s Sacrifice
According to Akahi News findings, the priest highlighted that the death and resurrection of Christ demonstrate the limitless extent of God’s love. Quoting from John 3:16 and Romans 5:10, he said that “while we were still sinners, the Son of God died for us.”
He added that through faith in Christ, believers are justified and filled with the love of God by the Holy Spirit:
“The Holy Spirit pours out the love of God in our hearts, nurturing us to understand what God has done and is doing for us. He helps us to know more about our justification and the glorious salvation He promised.”
Fr Olowolagba reminded the faithful that through Christ’s resurrection, God has given humanity joy and communion with the dead — those in purgatory, the saints triumphant in heaven, and the faithful on earth, forming the one mystical Church of Christ.
“Let’s Remain Focused on Our Pilgrimage of Faith”
In his closing message, the priest urged Christians to remain steadfast in their pilgrimage of faith, trusting that God’s promises will be fulfilled.
“Beloved brethren in Christ Jesus, let’s focus on our pilgrimage journey of faith; it shall be well with you all. Peace of the Lord be with you always,” he said.
Akahi News learnt that Fr Olowolagba’s reflection echoes the timeless message of hope, reminding the faithful that death is not the end but a transition into eternal life through Christ, the Resurrection and the Life.

ALL SOULS DAY
Readings,: 2st. Wisdom 3: 1-9, 2nd. Rm.5: 5-11, Gospel Lk 7: 11-17.
Theme: I am the Resurrection and Life, Whoever Believes in Me, Though He Dies, I Will Raise Him Up on the Last Day.
Reflection; Peace of the risen Lord be with you all, beloved brethren in the Lord. Today being the second day in the month of November, the Church commemorates all Souls day. ” I am the resurrection and life, whoever believes in me, even though he died, I will raise him up on the last day” days the Lord ( Jn. 6:40). Wisdom is a breath of the power of God, a pure emanation of the glory of Almighty ( wis.7:25). Wisdom is personified (Prov. 8:25). Her intimate relationship with God is beautifully described in ( 7:25-26). These words assume astounding significance. For in Christ we recognize the full personification/ incarnation of God’s wisdom – spoken of by John as Logos( Word – Jn. 1:1), and also proclaimed by others verses in the New Testament ( Col. 1:15 : Heb. 1:3). It was devil that corrupted creation by introducing death. Now, the Wisdom of God is correcting the ravage death. Jesus came into the world to arise from the dead, and thereby to conquer death for man. As an ideal man, His resurrection and exaltation into the presence of God could stand for every man’s desperate need to conquer death and to be acceptable to God. His resurrected life of the believer. The love of God is demonstrated in His justifying the man who truly believes in His Son, Jesus Christ,( Jn.3:16). The Holy- spirit pours out the love of God in our hearts. He grows and nurtures us in the love of God, increasing our understanding of what God has done and is doing for us. He helps us to know more and more about our justification and more and more of the glorious salvation He promised. The death and resurrection of Christ shows the extent of God’s love for humanity that is limitless. While we are still sinners, the Son of God dies for us. Christ died for us as a ransom ( Gal. 3:13-14). God has proved His love, ( Is 53:5). Christ is out resurrection ( Rm. 5:10). Through Christ resurrection, God gives us joy. We have communion with the dead: we are the militant chui, the dead are in state of Purgatory while Saintly ones are the triumphant church. Through the divine power, Christ raised the dead in the Gospel today, reassuring us, like Father like Son. Beloved brethren in Christ Jesus, let’s focus on our pilgrimage journey of faith, it shall be well with you all. Peace of the Lord be with you all.
