Amaechi Declares Buhari’s Administration Superior to Tinubu’s, Pledges Support for ADC

Lagos, Nigeria – 11 August 2025 – Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari was far superior to that of President Bola Tinubu. Speaking during a discussion on an X Space titled Weekend Politics on Saturday, 9 August 2025, Amaechi expressed strong criticism of the current government’s performance.

“Buhari’s government is 100 times better than Tinubu’s government. For Christ’s sake, were you dying of hunger? What we pay here is N1 million every week for power (N4 million in a month). How many people can afford that? Then you have to buy diesel of about N300,000 aside from feeding and staff salary,” Amaechi stated, highlighting the economic burdens faced by Nigerians. He added, “It was not like that when Buhari was in power. Why are we comparing diamond to gold? In fact, this government is not even gold at all.”
Amaechi, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), now aligns with notable figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Governor Nasir El-Rufai. He pledged his full support to the ADC’s presidential candidate, provided the candidate emerges from a free and fair primary. “In a free and fair primary, whoever wins will have my full support. I will be deeply devoted to the campaign and will do everything in my power to help ADC unseat this current, clueless government,” he affirmed.
The former minister also outlined key policy priorities, criticising certain infrastructure projects and emphasising electoral reform. “I will abandon the coastal road; that road is for stealing. Electoral reforms are the lowest-hanging fruit for me if I become President. There will be electoral reforms in my first six months,” Amaechi asserted.
Amaechi’s remarks have ignited public discourse, with some commending his forthrightness while others see his defection and statements as a calculated step towards the 2027 elections. His critique reflects growing concerns over the current administration’s economic policies and governance.
