Anambra Police Arrest Suspected Armed Robber, Recover Stolen Vehicle in Joint Intelligence Operation

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have apprehended a suspected armed robber and separatist group member, recovering a vehicle reported stolen in neighbouring Imo State.

According to an official statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrest was carried out in the early hours of Sunday, 10th August 2025, by officers attached to the Special Anti-Cultism Squad, Enugwu-Ukwu, during a well-coordinated, intelligence-led operation.

The suspect, identified as Charles Chinonso, 32, was intercepted at Umuazu Village, Nise, in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State. Police investigations revealed that the recovered vehicle had earlier been reported stolen from the World Bank Housing Area, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.

The breakthrough followed a complaint lodged by the victim in Imo State. Acting on credible technological intelligence, operatives traced the stolen car’s location, swiftly moved to the scene, and effected the arrest without incident.

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, assured the public that the Command will work closely with the Imo State Police Command to ensure seamless transfer and prosecution of the case in line with legal procedures. He further reiterated the Command’s commitment to deploying advanced intelligence-gathering techniques to dismantle criminal networks and recover stolen property.

“This arrest is a testament to our resolve in ensuring criminals have no safe haven in Anambra State,” CP Orutugu stated. “We will continue to intensify intelligence-led policing to protect the lives and property of residents.”

The suspect remains in police custody, and further investigations are ongoing to determine his possible involvement in other criminal activities. Authorities have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies.
