Anambra Police Prosecute Five Suspects Including Father Who Allegedly Defiled Daughter for Years

Heart-wrenching details have emerged from Anambra State as Akahi News can confirm that the Police Command has moved to prosecute five suspects over a string of sexual and child abuse cases recorded across the state within the month of April alone. Among the accused is a father who allegedly violated his own daughter repeatedly over several years.

Akahi News learnt that the Command has concluded investigations into these disturbing cases and is set to arraign the suspects before a Special Court sitting in Awka today, May 6, 2026. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed in a statement issued to newsmen on Wednesday that the cases are being handled by the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

The allegations range from defilement and incest to severe child abuse. It is a catalogue of horrors that no child should ever experience.

Father Accused of Incestuous Relationship with Daughter Since Age 17

The most shocking case involves a middle-aged man identified as Rapuruchukwu Ezenandu. According to police findings, he allegedly engaged in an incestuous relationship with his own daughter starting from when she was about 17 years old. The abuse continued in silence for years.

How did it come to light? Akahi News gathered that the victim, now 20 years old, visited a hospital and was diagnosed with a serious viral infection. The diagnosis raised suspicion, and that suspicion eventually exposed the alleged long-term abuse. The suspect, who is also positive for the infection, is said to have made a confessional statement to the alleged crime.

One cannot help but ask: where was the mother? Where were the neighbours? Where was anyone who could have protected this young woman from the man who was supposed to be her protector? The system failed her for three long years.

Security Guard, Barber, and Others Among the Accused

The police statement detailed other cases that are equally disturbing. A 26-year-old security guard, Chukwuemeka Chidiebere, is accused of attacking a 16-year-old girl within an estate in Ogbunike. He allegedly dragged her into an uncompleted building and forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of her. The suspect, the police said, has confessed to the crime.

Then there is the case of a 36-year-old barber, Uchenna Muojama, accused of defiling an 11-year-old girl in Neni. How did he gain access to her? He reportedly lured the child into his barbing salon before committing the act. Investigators have already secured medical evidence to support the case in court. That evidence will now be tested before a judge.

Akahi News also learnt of a 52-year-old suspect, Chukwudi Nwayata, who allegedly took advantage of the mental condition of an 11-year-old girl in Awka. He is accused of luring her to his residence and committing the offence. The vulnerability of a child with mental challenges makes this case particularly heinous.

Female Suspect Accused of Brutalising Adopted Children Aged 6 and 4

Not all the suspects are men. A female suspect, Eucharia Ezenwanne, is alleged to have subjected two minors – aged just 6 and 4 – to severe physical abuse. The children, who were said to have been adopted from a motherless babies’ home in Onitsha, were reportedly brutalised with a wire, leaving visible injuries on their tiny bodies.

These children were already orphans. They had already lost their biological parents. They were placed in a home expecting care and love. Instead, they met brutality. It is a betrayal of the highest order.

The Police Spokesman noted that the cases were received from different divisions, including Ogbunike, Neni, Oko, and Awka, and were thoroughly investigated before being charged to court. That thoroughness will now be tested in the judicial process.

Commissioner of Police Vows to Protect Vulnerable Persons

Reacting to the cases, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ikioye Orutugu, did not mince words. He described the offences as grievous, inhuman, and unacceptable. In a society where child abuse is often swept under the carpet, this public condemnation is significant.

The Commissioner stressed that the Command would not relent in its efforts to protect vulnerable persons, especially children. He further vowed to ensure that the perpetrators of such acts are brought to justice to serve as a deterrent to others.

Akahi News believes that conviction, not just prosecution, will be the true test. Suspects can be arraigned. But if the courts do not hand down severe sentences, the deterrent effect is lost. These five suspects – if found guilty – must face consequences that match the gravity of their crimes.

What Does This Mean for Anambra and Nigerian Children?

These five cases are just the ones that were reported and investigated. How many more are happening in the shadows? How many children are suffering in silence because they have no one to tell, or no one who will believe them?

For the ordinary Nigerian parent, these reports are a wake-up call. Trust must be earned, even from relatives, neighbours, and authority figures. Teach your children about safe touch. Listen when they speak. Watch for changes in behaviour that might signal abuse. The predators are often closer than you think.

For the government and law enforcement, the message is clear: the Gender Unit of the SCID must be well-funded, well-staffed, and empowered to pursue these cases without interference. Child abuse is not a family matter to be settled behind closed doors. It is a crime against the state and against humanity.

A Philosophical Reflection on Innocence and Betrayal

There is a sacred trust between a parent and a child. It is supposed to be unbreakable. When a father violates that trust – not once, but repeatedly over years – something dies in the soul of that child. She may heal. But she will never be the person she would have been in a world where her father protected her instead of preying on her.

The other cases are no less tragic. A security guard who should be protecting a community chooses to attack a teenager. A barber who should be cutting hair chooses to lure a child into his shop for evil. A woman who adopts orphans chooses to beat them with a wire. These are not monsters from folklore. These are everyday people who made monstrous choices.

Akahi News calls on the Anambra State judiciary to prioritise these cases. The Special Court sitting in Awka must deliver swift and certain justice. Delays, technicalities, and out-of-court settlements should not be allowed to bury these horrific acts.

The five suspects are entitled to a fair trial. That is the law. But the victims are entitled to justice. That is also the law. And the people of Anambra – indeed all Nigerians – are watching to see which principle will prevail.
