APC Cross River State Chapter Allegedly Impeaches Chairman Alphonsus Ebar, Appoints Ntufam Ekum Ekok Ojogu as Acting Chairman
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State has allegedly impeached its Chairman, Barrister Alphonsus Ogar Ebar, following persistent calls for his resignation by different segments of the party, according to a report originally published by theparadise.ng.
Akahi News gathered that the decision was taken during a meeting of the State Executive Committee on 26 November 2025, where 30 out of the 32 members reportedly adopted a resolution to remove Ebar from office. The impeachment was later announced at the party secretariat by the State Secretary, Patrick Asikpo.
While an official statement from the impeached chairman was not available as at the time of filing this report, party sources, speaking with newsmen, claimed that repeated entreaties for a voluntary resignation were allegedly ignored, leading to what they described as a “collective and decisive action” by the committee.

Acting Chairman Appointed
Following the alleged impeachment, Ntufam Ekum Ekok Ojogu was named Acting Chairman of the party in the state. He is expected to oversee the affairs of the APC pending the convening of a state congress.
Akahi News learnt that the swearing-in ceremony was reportedly witnessed by the APC South-South Zonal Secretary, Dr Ita Udosen, and the Cross River representative at the zonal level, Edet Asia — an indication of possible zonal endorsement of the internal restructuring.
In his acceptance remarks, Ojogu urged party members to embrace peace and unity.
“It is time to sheath our swords. Let us set aside any differences, grievances, or misunderstandings that may have arisen,” he said.
He further assured members that their outstanding entitlements and dues would be prioritised.
“I want you to know that all entitlements and dues owed to you will be serviced in the shortest possible time. Your patience and trust fuel our resolve to move forward together,” he added.
Akahi News gathered that his speech was met with applause from members who expressed hope for a new era of cooperation and reconciliation within the party.
Allegations That Sparked the Crisis
Reports referenced by theparadise.ng alleged that chapter and ward executives of the party had repeatedly called for Ebar’s resignation over claims of:
- Financial misappropriation
- High-handed leadership style
- Dictatorial tendencies
- Mismanagement of party affairs
Although these allegations remain unproven in a court of law, the growing discontent within the party structure reportedly created deep divisions among stakeholders.
Akahi News learnt that the crisis had been simmering for months, with several failed attempts at internal reconciliation before the drastic step was taken.
Loyalty to Governor Reaffirmed
In a move widely interpreted as strategic and symbolic, the new Acting Chairman reaffirmed his “unflinching loyalty” to the Governor of Cross River State, Prince Bassey Edet Otu.
Political observers speaking with newsmen believe this declaration was aimed at strengthening confidence in the stability of the party and assuring the state government that the APC structure remains aligned with its leadership and development agenda.
Akahi News gathered that this show of loyalty may also help to prevent further factionalisation within the state chapter.
Call for Reconciliation and Unity
Beyond the leadership change, the development has once again highlighted the need for reconciliation within the party. Analysts have warned that internal crises, if not properly managed, could affect the party’s performance in future elections.
Party insiders told newsmen that deliberate efforts are now being put in place to unify aggrieved members and harmonise all factions.
Akahi News learnt that some stakeholders have already begun quiet consultations aimed at healing divisions and repositioning the party for stability in the months ahead.
What Comes Next
With a state congress expected in the near future, the Cross River APC now faces a defining moment. The actions taken in the coming weeks may determine whether the party emerges stronger or remains trapped in internal conflicts.
Despite the controversy, one message rings clear: unity, transparency, and accountability will remain key to the party’s survival and credibility in the state.
Akahi News will continue to monitor developments and provide updated reports as more information becomes available.
