Attempt To Detain Omoyele Sowore Will Spark Nationwide Resistance, Take It Back Movement Warns

The Take It Back (TIB) Movement has issued a strong warning to the Nigeria Police Force and the Tinubu-led administration, declaring that any attempt to detain or intimidate its convener, Omoyele Sowore, will be met with mass resistance across the country.

In a statement signed by Sanyaolu Juwon, National Coordinator of the movement, Akahi News gathered that Sowore was invited by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police over his involvement in the ongoing #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protests and other political engagements. The activist reportedly honoured the invitation but has not returned since.

The group described any potential detention as a direct assault on democratic freedoms and vowed to mobilise nationwide protests if Sowore is not released immediately.

“Sowore is not a criminal; he is a renowned human rights activist and a voice of conscience for millions of oppressed Nigerians. The right to peaceful protest is constitutionally guaranteed, and no regime, no matter how desperate, can take it away,” the statement reads in part.

The movement further cautioned that it would hold the Commissioner of Police, the Inspector General of Police, and the Tinubu administration responsible for Sowore’s safety and well-being.

It emphasised that Nigerians would not tolerate a return to an era reminiscent of military dictatorship, urging citizens to stay alert and ready to defend civil liberties.

“If Sowore is not released immediately and unconditionally, we will mobilise citizens for sustained protests and civil disobedience until his freedom is restored,” the group added.

As of the time of filing this report, Akahi News learnt that Sowore’s whereabouts remain unclear, and authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding his invitation or detention.

Akahi News will continue to monitor this developing story and provide updates as more information emerges.
