Bandit Attack in Wake Village, Southern Kaduna Leaves Several Dead
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
The wave of insecurity in Kaduna State has taken yet another tragic turn as bandits launched a deadly attack on Wake Village in Kachia Local Government Area, Southern Kaduna, leaving multiple residents dead and several others injured.

Eyewitnesses told Akahi News that the armed assailants stormed the village in the early hours of Sunday, opening fire indiscriminately and causing panic among locals who were forced to flee for safety.
Community in Mourning
The aftermath of the attack was harrowing as bodies of the slain residents were recovered for burial while families grieved the loss of loved ones. Community leaders described the incident as “one of the darkest days” for Wake Village, lamenting the incessant attacks on rural communities in Southern Kaduna despite repeated calls for government intervention.
“This is just sad, very sad! We have lost so many people to these senseless attacks. Who is trying to prove a point about Kaduna?” a distraught community member told Akahi News.
A Pattern of Violence
Southern Kaduna has long been a hotspot for banditry and communal violence, with rural villages bearing the brunt of these frequent and deadly assaults.
Only recently, similar attacks were reported in neighbouring communities where dozens were killed, property destroyed, and scores abducted for ransom. Security experts note that the attackers often strike at night, targeting unprotected villages to spread fear and exert control over local populations.
Government Response Under Scrutiny
While the Kaduna State Government and federal security agencies have repeatedly pledged to end the bloodshed, critics argue that their responses have been slow and largely ineffective, leaving many communities exposed to unrelenting violence.
Civil society groups have renewed calls on both state and federal authorities to intensify security patrols, deploy more personnel to rural areas, and tackle the root causes of banditry, including poverty, unemployment, and illegal arms proliferation.
Rising Concern Over Insecurity
The attack on Wake Village adds to growing concerns about the worsening security situation across northern Nigeria, where bandits, terrorists, and other criminal groups continue to operate with alarming impunity.
Analysts warn that if urgent and coordinated measures are not taken, rural communities in states like Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara, and Niger will remain at the mercy of armed groups, with devastating humanitarian consequences.
