Bandits Kill Eight, Injure 18 in Kaduna’s Wake Village as Insecurity Worsens
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
At least eight people were killed and 18 others injured after armed bandits launched a deadly assault on Wake village in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State in the early hours of Sunday.

The attackers, who stormed the community in Agunu Ward in large numbers, carried out a coordinated assault that left the village in chaos. Local residents reported that several people were abducted during the incident, though the exact number of captives remains unknown.
Witness Accounts Paint Grim Picture
Eyewitnesses told Akahi News that the bandits moved swiftly, shooting indiscriminately and forcing residents to flee for safety. Some villagers were taken hostage as the attackers retreated into the surrounding forests.
“I can confirm that bandits killed eight of our people in Wake village, injured about 18, and kidnapped several others,” a local source revealed.
The injured victims were rushed to medical facilities in Kachia town, while those in critical condition were transferred to hospitals in Kaduna for intensive treatment.
Authorities Silent as Frustration Grows
The attack comes amid rising concerns over persistent insecurity in Southern Kaduna, a region that has suffered repeated violent assaults in recent years.
Community members expressed frustration over what they described as government indifference to the plight of rural residents.
“As usual, no media is interested in our woes, and even our leaders, because of the politics surrounding banditry in the state,” one villager lamented.
As of press time, neither the Kaduna State Police Command nor the state government had released an official statement on the incident, leaving residents fearful of possible further attacks.
Security Concerns Heighten
The latest attack contradicts recent claims by some state officials suggesting a decline in banditry across Kaduna State. Instead, it highlights the escalating security challenges facing rural communities in Southern Kaduna, where residents continue to bear the brunt of violent criminal activity.
