Benue Priest Explains Monthly Mountain Prayers Ahead of All-Night Programme

Spiritual Preparation on the Mountain

The Parish Priest of St. Mathias Catholic Church, Selagi Project, in Gaav, Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Terungwa Asue, has revealed why he dedicates every last Friday of the month to praying on the mountain before the parish’s popular All-Night Programme.

Speaking to parishioners and visitors, Fr. Asue explained that the mountain prayers serve as a time of personal encounter with God, spiritual renewal, and intercession for the church and community before leading the congregation in the monthly vigil.

‘A Time to Seek God’s Face’

According to Akahi News findings, the priest described the monthly mountain prayers as a tradition rooted in biblical examples, where prophets and spiritual leaders sought divine direction and blessings through solitude and prayer.

“Each time I climb this mountain before the All-Night Programme, I come to lay everything before God — the needs of the church, the families in our parish, and the entire community,” Fr. Asue stated. “It is a time to seek God’s face in silence before ministering to His people.”

Invitation to the Faithful

Fr. Asue encouraged Catholics and Christians across Benue State to join the monthly All-Night Programme, noting that the blessings experienced by participants are often remarkable.

Akahi News gathered that the programme draws worshippers from within and outside the community, creating an atmosphere of prayer, healing, and thanksgiving.
