The Catholic community in Kenya has extended warm wishes and prayers to Bishop Alfred Rotich of the Catholic Diocese of Kericho and Father Dominic Rotich, serving in Nandi, alongside their remarkable mother, whose devotion and faith have nurtured two servants of God in the same family.

Described by parishioners as “a true mother of priests,” this noble woman has been celebrated for her unwavering support, prayerful spirit, and commitment to the Church. Her dedication has been likened to the biblical example of Hannah in 1 Samuel 1:27-28, who offered her son to the Lord in service, saying, “I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life, he will be given over to the Lord.”

Prayers for More Vocations

In recognising her profound role in shaping the spiritual journey of Bishop Alfred and Father Dominic, the faithful are also being called upon to pray for more vocations to the priesthood and religious life. As Christ reminds in Matthew 9:37-38, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Church leaders in Kericho and Nandi have urged Catholics to support young men and women discerning religious life, noting that families remain the first “seminaries” where faith and values are planted.

A Prayer for the Church

As celebrations continue, the Diocese is also inviting the faithful to intercede for the entire Catholic Church, praying for unity, holiness, and a deepening of faith among clergy and laity alike. Echoing Psalm 122:6, they call on believers to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem: May those who love you be secure.”

The Rotich family’s story stands as a shining testimony of faith, sacrifice, and the blessings that flow when families dedicate their children to God’s service.
