Akahi News learnt that parish priests, church leaders, and institutions are expected to integrate daily reflections from the manual into liturgical celebrations, particularly evening Masses, to ensure wide participation.

The manual also encourages dissemination of teachings beyond physical gatherings, allowing members to engage from their homes and communities.

Theme Reflects Growing Concern Over Digital Culture

At the heart of the 2026 celebration is a strong warning about the impact of digital communication on human identity.

The theme, aligned with the global World Communications Day message, emphasises the need to protect authentic human voices and personal presence in a world increasingly dominated by artificial intelligence, social media, and virtual interactions.

Observers note that this focus reflects broader concerns within the Church about misinformation, digital manipulation, and the erosion of genuine human relationships.

Structured Daily Reflections for Spiritual and Social Impact

The ComWEEK manual provides a structured, day-by-day guide for reflection, teaching, and engagement.

Akahi News gathered that each day is designed to address key themes such as:

  • ethical use of media,
  • the role of communication in evangelisation,
  • and the importance of truth and authenticity in digital spaces.

Church leaders are encouraged to adapt the programme to local realities while maintaining the core message of responsible communication.

Leadership and National Participation

The 2026 ComWEEK will be officially inaugurated in Kaduna, with the President of the CBCN expected to deliver the opening message, while the closing Mass will take place in Abuja under the leadership of the Bishop Chairman for Social Communications.

Analysts believe the centralised coordination highlights the growing importance the Church places on communication as a tool for evangelisation and societal transformation.

A Timely Message for a Changing World

The release of the 2026 ComWEEK manual underscores the Catholic Church’s commitment to guiding its members through the complexities of modern communication.

As digital platforms continue to shape human interaction, the Church’s emphasis on preserving authentic voices and faces serves as both a spiritual and social call to action.

For many observers, the initiative is not just a religious programme but a timely intervention in a world where technology increasingly defines human connection.
