Gospel Reading: Luke 6:12–19
“Jesus went out to the mountain to pray; and all night He continued in prayer to God.”
Silent Hours Before the Father
In today’s Gospel, we see Jesus stepping away from the crowd and spending the entire night in prayer before making a crucial decision — choosing His twelve apostles. This deliberate action teaches us something profound: before every significant step in His earthly mission, Jesus surrendered to the Father’s will through prayer.

For many of us, life’s major decisions — career choices, relationships, responsibilities, and even daily struggles — can weigh heavily on our minds. But Jesus reminds us that the only way to find direction and peace is by seeking intimacy with God. Prayer, especially in silence and solitude, helps us align our will with His.
The Power of Divine Encounter
The Gospel also recounts how the crowd gathered to hear Him and be healed. Luke tells us that power went out from Him, curing diseases and casting out unclean spirits. This shows us that Christ not only teaches but also restores and transforms. His presence brings healing, peace, and renewal to all who seek Him with open hearts.
Many of us carry hidden wounds — physical, emotional, or spiritual. Coming into Christ’s presence through prayer, the sacraments, and His Word offers the healing and strength we need to continue life’s journey with faith and hope.
Our Call as Modern Disciples
Jesus chose ordinary men to become apostles, despite their human weaknesses. Likewise, He calls each of us to be His witnesses today. Through prayer, we receive clarity, courage, and grace to live as true disciples in our families, workplaces, and communities.
The world may be noisy and distracting, but only those who listen to God in prayer can carry His light into the darkness around them.

Lord Jesus, teach me to seek Your Father’s will through prayer in every decision I make. Heal my wounds and strengthen me to follow You faithfully as Your disciple. May Your presence fill my life with peace, courage, and love. Amen.
