The African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate for the forthcoming November 8 Anambra election, Chioma Ifemeludike, has ignited widespread reactions across Nigeria’s social media space following the release of her campaign photos and videos championing inclusive governance and gender equality.
According to information gathered by Akahi News, the actress-turned-politician took to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday to reaffirm her confidence in winning the election. In her words, “I am the flag bearer of the African Action Congress, and I’m proud to say that I’m the best candidate in the November 8 Anambra gubernatorial election. The lighthouse is about to be lit. #ChiomaForGovernor2025 #CourageForChange.”

The post, which has since gone viral, drew thousands of mixed reactions from Nigerians online — a clear indicator that her message of “Courage for Change” is beginning to resonate beyond the conventional political audience.
Mixed Reactions Trail Her Campaign Launch
Akahi News gathered that while many users commended Ifemeludike’s boldness and her courage to challenge the political status quo, others criticised the timing and tone of her campaign rollout.
One social media user, #uc_iyke, commented that her campaign appeared “too late to gain widespread visibility,” while another, #CFcTem, wrote, “Politics is not fashion.”

However, her supporters quickly came to her defence. A user identified as #dangbanamanager declared, “You have my vote. I want to support your campaign,” while another, #BosePrecious_, joined the debate with a feminist perspective, saying, “If we’re really talking about feminism, then there’s no way to attack her and not sound like you’re pandering to patriarchy.”
Observers who spoke with Akahi News noted that the reactions underscore the deep cultural tensions around women’s participation in Nigerian politics, particularly in southeastern states where traditional structures still play a dominant role in public leadership.

Ifemeludike Responds: “Do Not Let Them Gaslight or Confuse You”
In a follow-up video released on Wednesday, Ifemeludike urged voters to focus on her ideas rather than social media chatter.
“Do not let them gaslight or confuse you. Yes, we can have beauty and brains in one body. Beauty and elegance are about courage, kindness, and intelligence. Chioma is that woman. Ndi Anambra must vote for social change,” she said.
In her campaign video, the AAC candidate detailed her motivation for joining the race and highlighted the structural challenges women face in Nigerian politics.
“Has this journey been difficult for me as a woman? Oh yes, it has been tough. But when the going gets tough, the tough get going. I have the ability, capability, and capacity to run this race with any gender,” she declared confidently.
Challenging Patriarchy and Cultural Stereotypes
Ifemeludike went further to condemn long-standing stereotypes that often discourage women from seeking leadership positions.
“In Anambra, many still believe that a woman who squats to urinate cannot oversee the affairs of the state. You hear this from male chauvinists all the time, and it shows how strong patriarchy still is in our society,” she said.
Political analysts who spoke to Akahi News believe her campaign is reshaping conversations around gender equality in Nigerian politics. They noted that her strategy reflects a generational shift toward issue-based politics and inclusivity.
Focus on Competence, Not Gender
Despite the gender debates her campaign has stirred, Ifemeludike insists that her message is centred on competence, integrity, and accountability, not gender.
“I’m not intimidated. I know who I am and what I can bring to the table — good and quality leadership, human and environmental development. What matters is electing credible leaders and demanding accountability,” she affirmed.
She called on citizens to reject vote-buying and electoral violence while advocating for issue-driven campaigns ahead of the polls.
“Beyond gender and age, Anambra must vote for a credible leader with empathy and integrity. This is our chance to correct years of bad governance and bring real development to our people,” she stated.
“Ka Nwaanyị Je Ke Ne — Let the Woman Lead”
Concluding her message with a powerful appeal in Igbo, Ifemeludike declared, “Ka nwaanyị je ke ne. Nwaanyị bụ ihe,” meaning “Let the woman lead, she is somebody.”
Her closing line, “Courage for Change,” has since become a rallying cry among her growing supporters online, who believe she represents a new generation of female leaders redefining political participation in Nigeria.
As the Anambra election draws near, Akahi News will continue to monitor developments surrounding Chioma Ifemeludike’s campaign, public reactions, and the evolving political dynamics shaping the 2025 gubernatorial contest.
