Daddy Freeze Opens Up on Painful First Marriage, Says He Married Out of Pregnancy Pressure
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
Popular Nigerian media personality, Ifedayo Olarinde, widely known as Daddy Freeze, has revealed the deep struggles and heartbreak surrounding his first marriage to his ex-wife, Opeyemi. Speaking during an interview with media host Chude Jideonwo, Freeze recounted how the marriage began on shaky grounds and eventually crumbled under emotional, financial, and spiritual strain.

“I Married Because She Was Pregnant,” Says Freeze
Daddy Freeze admitted that he got married at just 24 years old while his ex-wife was 22, revealing that the union was not a deliberate choice but one made out of social and religious pressure due to pregnancy.
“If not for the pregnancy, marriage would not have been on the table,” he confessed.
According to Eyes of Lagos, Freeze described the marriage as emotionally draining and toxic, noting that although they lived under the same roof, they had become strangers to each other.
“We were not even sleeping in the same room anymore, but we were going to church together,” he recalled.
Emotional and Financial Collapse
The seasoned broadcaster further revealed that the aftermath of the failed marriage took a heavy toll on his life. He said the breakup left him broken, isolated, and financially devastated.
“The marriage broke me. It was two damaged people in a union, and when it ended, I lost my kids, I lost jobs, and even the few jobs I got, I couldn’t deliver because I was shattered,” he said.
Freeze added that his financial struggles became so severe that at one point, he could not afford ₦10,000 to buy a birthday cake for his daughter.
The Akahi News team gathered that his divorce also strained his spiritual and professional life. The controversial OAP disclosed that after his separation, he was sidelined in church circles and distanced from platforms where he once thrived.
“My Kids See Me as the Devil”
In one of the most emotional moments of the interview, Daddy Freeze lamented how the broken marriage damaged his relationship with his children.
“They see me as the devil, just as half of the world sees me as the devil,” he said sadly, admitting that he was unable to see his children for nearly a decade after the separation.
Despite the scars of his past, Freeze spoke warmly about his current marriage, saying it is built on better understanding and emotional maturity.
“Sometimes I raise my voice, but I’ve never raised my hand against my wife,” he affirmed, contrasting his present relationship with his former one.
A Hard-Learned Lesson on Marriage and Growth
Daddy Freeze’s candid revelation highlights the realities many young couples face when entering marriage prematurely or under pressure. His story serves as a sobering reflection on the need for emotional readiness, mutual respect, and understanding before taking such a lifelong step.
As Akahi News gathered, the broadcaster’s openness has sparked widespread reactions online, with many commending his honesty while others criticised his past decisions.
Akahi News will continue to follow this story as conversations around marriage, faith, and emotional healing evolve in Nigeria’s media space.
