The recovered items reportedly comprised one AK-47 rifle, three rounds of live ammunition and two locally made cut-to-size guns.

The recovery is significant because the possession and circulation of illegal firearms can increase the threat posed by criminal groups to residents, particularly in communities where armed robbery and other violent crimes have been reported.

However, the suspect’s alleged involvement in the reported robbery incidents has not been established by a court of law.

Police Continue Investigation

The Delta State Police Command said investigations were ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspect’s alleged involvement and identify other individuals who may be connected to the suspected criminal network.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the operatives involved in the arrest and reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and efforts to dismantle criminal networks across the state.

The command also urged residents to provide credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing crime, identifying suspects and protecting lives and property.

Community cooperation, combined with lawful and professional police operations, can help security agencies respond more effectively to threats and improve public safety.

What the Arrest Means for Security in Delta State

The arrest and recovery of firearms represent a reported operational development in the fight against armed robbery in Delta State. Nevertheless, the broader effectiveness of such operations will depend on the police’s ability to investigate cases thoroughly, prosecute suspects where evidence supports charges and disrupt criminal networks beyond individual arrests.

Authorities must also ensure that recovered weapons are properly documented and examined as part of investigations, while suspects are treated in accordance with the law.

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activities through appropriate security channels rather than taking the law into their own hands.

The arrest of Sunday Nimel and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, three rounds of ammunition and two locally made guns highlight the Delta State Police Command’s ongoing efforts to tackle suspected armed robbery.

As investigations continue, further updates may clarify whether the suspect is linked to specific robbery incidents and whether additional arrests will follow.
