DSS Monitoring Kuje Prison, Plotting To Rearrest Me – Malami

The office of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has raised alarm over an alleged plot by government security agencies to rearrest him immediately following his release on bail, Akahi News gathered.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by Malami’s Special Assistant on Media, Mohammed Bello Doka, the office was “reliably informed” of fresh arrangements being made to effect the former minister’s rearrest despite a subsisting court order granting him bail.

The statement expressed grave concerns about the implications of the move for due process, the rule of law, and personal safety. It alleged that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) had mounted surveillance at the Kuje Correctional Centre and were on standby to carry out the rearrest on what were described as “trumped-up and unrelated charges.”

Akahi News learnt that intelligence available to Malami’s office suggested the manoeuvre was intended to ensure his continued detention even after complying with all bail conditions. The statement recalled that a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory had granted bail weeks ago, but the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reportedly declined to effect his release.

“This pattern of granting bail on paper while preparing fresh arrests to ensure continued detention represents a grave assault on constitutional safeguards and an abuse of state power,” the statement read.

The former AGF’s office further warned that the safety of Malami, his family, and staff remained under serious threat, noting that any act of intimidation, unlawful detention, or harm would have to be accounted for by those responsible.

Call for Legal and Civil Oversight

Akahi News gathered that Malami’s office reiterated his consistent respect for the rule of law and willingness to submit to all lawful judicial processes. The statement appealed to relevant authorities, the legal community, civil society organisations, and the international community to monitor the situation closely and ensure security agencies acted strictly within the law.

“What is being demanded is nothing more than obedience to court orders, fairness, and constitutional protection, as guaranteed to every citizen,” the statement emphasised.

The office concluded that further updates would be communicated as developments unfold, signalling heightened concern over possible escalations.

Akahi News will continue to follow this story closely and provide timely updates as more information becomes available.
