By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested Bishop Ndibueze Onyagoziri Okorie, General Overseer of Champion the Truth Cathedral, over allegations of sexually exploiting a 22-year-old female sickle cell patient.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the arrest, stating that the cleric is in police custody while investigations continue.
“Yes, the Bishop is with us here at the police headquarters, Abakaliki. I don’t have any other information; it is under investigation. On Wednesday, 1st October, he was arrested by our men and brought to the state police command over the act,” SP Ukandu said.
Victim’s Allegations
In a viral social media video, the victim alleged that she was placed under the cleric’s care due to her health condition, with the promise of divine healing. She claimed:
- She was persuaded to live in the church to receive spiritual treatment for her sickle cell condition.
- The Bishop allegedly told her that engaging in sexual intercourse with him for seven consecutive days would change her genotype from SS to AA.
- Desperate to survive a condition that had claimed three of her siblings, she agreed.
- Following the alleged treatment, her health reportedly worsened, prompting her to inform her sister and leave the cleric’s residence.
- The Bishop allegedly threatened to post intimate pictures online if she left, which she later discovered had been shared on social media.
Cleric Denies Allegations
Bishop Onyeagoziri has denied the allegations, asserting that no sexual activity occurred between him and the victim. He claimed his phone was stolen and that Artificial Intelligence technology was used to fabricate the explicit images.
The case has sparked widespread outrage online, with human rights and advocacy groups calling for thorough investigations and accountability. Authorities in Ebonyi State have assured that the matter will be fully probed to protect vulnerable citizens and uphold justice.
