Emotional Reunion: Ex-NANS President Daniel Onjeh Reconnects With FUT Minna Security Officer After 22 Years

A former president of the West African Students’ Union (WASU) and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Daniel Onjeh, has shared an emotional story of his reunion with Haruna Mohammed, a security officer at the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, 22 years after his graduation.

A Heartwarming Encounter After Two Decades
According to a Facebook post made by Onjeh on Wednesday, the meeting occurred in June 2024 during his visit to the institution. The former All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Benue South described how the visibly excited security officer couldn’t contain his emotions upon seeing him again after more than two decades.
“He completely lost control out of excitement, jumped to hug me and pecked both sides of my cheek the moment he sighted me for the first time after 22 years!” Onjeh wrote.
He explained that during his days as a student activist on campus, he hardly noticed Mohammed, who worked at the security post, but the man’s memory of him remained vivid through the years.
A Testament to Enduring Human Connections
Onjeh said Mohammed, popularly known as Damaturu, recalled several moments from their time on campus with nostalgia — moments the politician himself had long forgotten.
“I never really took note of this man back then at the security gatepost while I went about my student activism on campus. Yet, he remembered me so clearly and began to recount those moments with nostalgia,” he wrote.
The emotional reunion, Onjeh said, reminded him of the value of kindness and the lasting impact of human interactions, no matter how seemingly insignificant they may appear at the time.
“I can’t stop sharing this story; it’s a touching reminder of how genuine human connections endure, even when time and distance stand between us. May God guide and preserve him always,” he concluded.
Reflections on Legacy and Humility
Many social media users have since reacted warmly to the story, praising both men for their shared humanity. Observers noted that Onjeh’s gesture highlights the importance of humility and appreciation for people in every role, regardless of social or professional hierarchy.
The touching reunion between Onjeh and Mohammed serves as a reminder that memories of compassion and respect often outlive time, resonating across generations.
