Flash Flooding in Nigeria’s Adamawa State Claims at Least 25 Lives, Displaces Thousands
Yola, Nigeria – At least 25 people have lost their lives and 11 others remain unaccounted for following severe flash flooding triggered by heavy rainfall in Nigeria’s northeastern Adamawa State, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed on Tuesday.

The deluge, which began on Sunday, inundated five communities in the Yola area, displacing 5,560 residents. NEMA reported that the flooding caused widespread devastation, sweeping away homes and livelihoods in the affected regions.
In response, authorities have established a temporary camp for displaced persons at Aliyu Musdafa College in Yola. NEMA stated that essential supplies, including food, water, and shelter materials, are being provided to those affected. Efforts to locate the missing individuals are ongoing, with rescue teams deployed across the impacted areas.
The agency has urged residents in flood-prone zones to remain vigilant, as weather forecasts indicate further rainfall in the coming days. This disaster underscores the growing challenges posed by extreme weather events in Nigeria, prompting calls for enhanced infrastructure and disaster preparedness measures.
