Young Footballer Passes Away After Brain Injury
Akahi News reports that former Arsenal academy striker, Billy Vigar, has tragically passed away aged 21 after suffering a severe brain injury during a football match in England.

The young forward was playing for Chichester City in an Isthmian League Premier Division game against Wingate and Finchley on Saturday, 20 September, when the incident occurred. The match was abandoned after just 13 minutes when Vigar sustained the injury.
Family Confirms Devastating News
In a statement released on Thursday, September 25, the Vigar family confirmed the heartbreaking loss, saying:
“After sustaining a significant brain injury last Saturday, Billy was put in an induced coma. On Tuesday, he underwent surgery to aid his recovery. Although the procedure provided some hope, the injury proved too severe, and he passed away on Thursday morning.”
The family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support, adding that Vigar died doing what he loved most — playing football.
Tributes Pour In From Clubs and Teammates
Chichester City FC described his death as “a huge loss” and urged the public to respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.
Arsenal Football Club, where Vigar began his career at 14, also released a statement mourning his death:
“Billy joined our academy with great passion and talent, scoring 17 goals in his debut season. He was a beloved figure among teammates and coaches alike, known for his love of the game and pride in wearing the Arsenal shirt.”
The club extended its deepest condolences to the Vigar family, friends, and the entire football community.
A Promising Career Cut Short
Billy Vigar signed a professional contract with Arsenal in 2022 before moving on loan to Derby County and Eastbourne Borough. He joined Hastings United in 2024 before signing with Chichester City at the start of the 2025 season.
