By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News

Fresh tensions are emerging in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of its National Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025. A faction loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has reportedly set conditions for supporting the convention, signalling potential internal friction within the party.

The group, operating under the PDP Eminent Leaders umbrella, includes former governors Samuel Ortom (Benue State), Ayo Fayose (Ekiti State), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia State). They have issued a six-point demand, which the party must meet to secure their backing, reflecting ongoing negotiations among senior party stakeholders.

The meeting was also attended by PDP National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, former Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and other senior party officials. The discussions come ahead of Tuesday’s inauguration of the party’s National Convention Planning Committee, which will oversee preparations for the convention.

Observers note that these developments may shape alliances, delegate alignments, and leadership outcomes, adding a layer of complexity to the party’s convention process. The PDP now faces the challenge of balancing internal demands while presenting a united front to its supporters and the wider electorate.
