Fubara Sacks All Commissioners and Public Officers After Supreme Court Judgment
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced the sack of all commissioners and public officers serving under his administration, citing the recent Supreme Court judgment as the reason for the sweeping decision.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday evening in Port Harcourt by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, who confirmed that the directive takes effect immediately.
Valedictory Session and Independence Day Reflections
Governor Fubara, while addressing his cabinet during a valedictory session at Government House, Port Harcourt, to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, thanked the outgoing officials for their services and contributions over the past two years.
“The Governor has thanked members of his cabinet for their services and contributions to the development of the State in the last two years,” the statement read.
Fubara also used the occasion to reflect on the significance of Nigeria’s independence, urging citizens to unite with President Bola Tinubu in building “a peaceful, secure, and prosperous country.” He reaffirmed his personal commitment to serve Rivers State with renewed vigour, appreciating residents for their continued support.
Supreme Court Ruling and Cabinet Shake-Up
The statement further clarified:
“The Governor has relieved all Commissioners and other public officers affected by the recent Supreme Court judgment of their appointments with immediate effect.”
This development follows months of uncertainty surrounding Fubara’s cabinet. Recall that the immediate past Administrator of the State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), had suspended all commissioners, Special Advisers, and Special Assistants appointed by Fubara after the President declared a state of emergency in Rivers State.
Ibas also dissolved boards and suspended heads of parastatals. With his exit from the state on 18 September, the fate of many appointees remained uncertain until Governor Fubara’s latest directive.
Political Implications
Akahi News gathered that this move may deepen ongoing political realignments in Rivers State as the governor seeks to consolidate his administration following the Supreme Court’s pronouncement.
Observers believe the sack offers Fubara an opportunity to form a leaner, more loyal cabinet as the state navigates post-crisis recovery. However, questions remain about how the decision might affect power dynamics between Abuja and Port Harcourt.
