LAGOS – In an effort to tackle insecurity in South-West region of the country, Iba Gani Adams, 15th Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land, on Wednesday, held maiden South-West security group summit in Lagos.
Adams said the essence was to have a proper coordination of the security groups in the South West which according to him was why they invited all groups that were relevant to security.

He pointed out that they had a lot of groups in the region but that not all of them were relevant, maintaining that in the region they had socio-cultural, socio-political but that they would limit themselves to securuy matters.
He said they would work with the governors, police and other security agencies, stating that the idea was to ensure that if the police or any of the agencies wanted to partner with community, they would not fall into the wrong hands.
He said the coalition had planned to write to the South West governors and Inspector General of Police, informing them of the resolution of the group.
The Yoruba leader said that to guard against disunity amongst the traditional rulers, they were going to write all the Obas intimating them about the security arrangement they had in the region.
He said that once they were in the know, he was sure that they would key into what they were doing because it was in the interest of the region.
Comrade Eric Oluwole, President General of Yoruba Youth Council, said because they were conversant with the terrain, it had become necessary that they were in a better position to be involved in the security of the region.
He said that it was appalling that the security agencies which claimed to have made some arrest of kidnappers had not been able to disclose the identity of the criminals.
