Gov Otu Accepts Resignation of Cross River Local Government Service Commission Chairman Over Alleged Racketeering
Governor Acts Over Alleged Employment Misconduct
Cross River State Governor, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, has accepted the resignation of Mr Darlington Bassey Eyo, the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, following allegations of gross abuse of office and widespread employment racketeering within the Commission’s recent recruitment exercise.

According to a press release dated 12 November 2025, and signed by Linus Obogo, Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, the resignation was accepted after findings revealed serious irregularities in the recruitment process conducted by the Commission.
The statement, sighted by Akahi News, noted that the governor viewed the alleged misconduct as unacceptable and contrary to his administration’s principles of transparency, accountability, and zero tolerance for corruption.
Employment Process Suspended Pending Fresh, Merit-Based Recruitment
Consequently, Governor Otu directed the immediate suspension of the compromised employment process, pending a new, transparent, and merit-driven recruitment exercise.
“A special review committee will be constituted to investigate the matter, identify culpable individuals, and recommend appropriate disciplinary and corrective measures in line with the administration’s zero tolerance for corruption,” the statement read.
The governor reportedly expressed deep concern that acts of impunity, if left unchecked, could undermine public confidence in government institutions. He vowed that his administration would not tolerate any breach of trust or manipulation of recruitment processes meant to provide equal opportunities for qualified citizens.
Upholding Integrity in Public Service
Governor Otu reaffirmed his commitment to building a government founded on integrity, fairness, and public accountability. He emphasised that every appointment and recruitment exercise in Cross River State must reflect merit and transparency, warning that any official found culpable of corrupt practices would face disciplinary consequences.
“No act of impunity will be allowed to stain the public trust in the government,” the statement added.
Political observers told Akahi News that the governor’s swift action signals a firm stance against corruption and a renewed push to sanitise the public sector in Cross River State.
