Gunmen Abduct Kebbi Deputy Speaker Samaila Bagudu After Friday Prayers
Gunmen have abducted the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Samaila Bagudu, in his hometown, Bagudu Local Government Area.
According to multiple sources, the attackers stormed Bagudu town on Friday evening, firing sporadically to scare residents before taking the lawmaker away. Akahi News learnt that the deputy speaker was seized moments after performing his evening prayers and was walking home from the mosque when the assailants struck.

Attackers Struck During Evening Prayers
Eyewitnesses told journalists that the gunmen arrived on motorcycles and began shooting indiscriminately, forcing residents to flee for safety. The suddenness of the attack left no chance for security operatives or community vigilantes to respond effectively.
A resident, who pleaded anonymity, said, “We were shocked. They came around the time people were returning from the mosque. Before anyone realised what was happening, the Deputy Speaker had been taken.”
The Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Government, Ahmed Idris, later confirmed the incident, stating that security agencies have been mobilised to track down the kidnappers and ensure the safe release of the lawmaker.
Security Concerns Deepen in Northern Nigeria
The abduction of the Deputy Speaker adds to a growing list of security challenges across northern Nigeria, where banditry and abductions have remained persistent despite ongoing government efforts.
In a related report, Akahi News earlier revealed how the Borno State Government spent ₦2.6 billion on “repentant” Boko Haram members, sparking concerns among soldiers and residents about the long-term implications for peace and security. Read more here.

Government and Police Yet to Provide Full Details
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to get further clarification from the Kebbi State Police Command were unsuccessful. However, officials assured that investigations are underway and that the state government remains committed to the safety of all citizens.
